Sun Wukong, also known as the Monkey King, is one of the main characters in “Journey to the West”. Wukong is a monkey born from a stone egg, who acquires supernatural powers through Taoist practices. He possesses incredible strength, speed, and has learned the 72 Earthly Transformations. He is a skilled fighter with many magical skills as well. He is eventually imprisoned under a mountain, for rebelling against heaven, and doing many other bad things. Many, many years later, he was released by Sanzang, under the condition he swore to become his disciple, even though Wukong is difficult student at first, due to his short temper and wildness. He eventually becomes one of Sanzang’s greatest disciples, through much learning, atonement, and overcoming of obstacles, externally and internally.
