Bailong, is Sanzang's steed and the third son of the Dragon King of the West Sea. He was originally set to be executed, after accidentally causing a fire that destroyed a pearl given to his father by the Jade Emperor. However, Guanyin stepped in and pleaded for his life. The dragon prince was instead banished to Yingchou Stream on Earth. When Tang Sanzang is crossing the stream, the prince appears in the form of a white dragon and swallows his white horse in one gulp. Then Wukong ends up battling him, defeats him, which causes the prince to retreat underwater. Wukong ends up learning about the dragon's origin from Guanyin. The dragon prince was waiting there for Sanzang, but did not recognise him, and ate his horse as a result. In order to make up for this, the prince transformed into a White Dragon Horse, to serves as Sanzang's steed for the rest of the journey. At a later time in the story, he tries to save Sanzang who is has been captured by the the Yellow Robe Demon, but fails. He is able to escape to tell the others and together they are able to rescue Sanzang.
